Dr. Keith Buckley is the most successful coach in Rollins College history, with 369 career victories, ranking seventh among active NCAA Division II coaches as of 2024. A former standout player for the Tars, Buckley has transformed his alma mater into a national powerhouse in Division II soccer.
Under his leadership, the Tars have claimed three Sunshine State Conference (SSC) Championships, three SSC Tournament titles, and advanced to the NCAA Tournament eight times since 2010. His crowning achievement came in 2010 when he guided Rollins to the NCAA Division II National Championship game. Despite battling snowstorm conditions in Louisville, Kentucky, the Tars narrowly fell to Northern Kentucky, 2-1.
In 2022, Buckley’s squad reached the Elite Eight but suffered a heart-wrenching penalty shootout loss to Barry University.
Buckley has earned five SSC Coach of the Year awards and three NSCAA South Region Coach of the Year honors. He has coached 21 All-America selections and seven SSC Players of the Year, including Daniel Robertson, the only Tar to earn All-America honors three times and SSC Player of the Year accolades twice.
An alumnus of Rollins, Buckley was inducted into the Rollins Sports Hall of Fame in 2008 for his exceptional playing career. A dynamic forward from 1984-88, he still ranks among the program’s all-time leaders in several offensive categories. Buckley was a three-time All-SSC honoree and earned All-State and All-Region recognition during his college years.
After graduating in 1988, Buckley played professionally for the Albany Capitals and Orlando Lions in the American Soccer League. He also played a pivotal role in organizing major international soccer events, including the 1994 FIFA World Cup and the 1996 Olympic soccer competition, both held in Orlando.
Buckley joined the Rollins coaching staff as an assistant in 1990 and was promoted to head coach in 1991. Despite a challenging debut season (3-13-1), he quickly revitalized the program. Highlights include leading the Tars to multiple record-breaking seasons in the 1990s, with national rankings and a strong presence in the SSC. He also coached the inaugural Rollins women’s varsity soccer teams, achieving back-to-back 10-win seasons.
Beyond the field, Buckley has served as Rollins’ Director of Physical Education and Assistant Director of Athletics for Academic Leadership since 2005. He holds an MBA from Rollins’ Crummer Graduate School of Business (1994) and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Central Florida (2003).
A London native, Buckley resides in Florida with his two daughters, Emily Carol and Sarah Elizabeth.
